If asked why she chose to study Graphic Communications, Ursula Wing will usually squint searchingly and cite having felt a vague obligation to study something more practical than art, given today's prohibitive cost of higher education. Nonetheless, she now appreciates the flexibility and financing for independent projects that working in the design field has since afforded her.
At a time when the versatility of the digital realm has all but entirely erased the divisions between artistic media, the exposure to various authoring technologies has also proven invaluable to the development of her work.
Her early years were spent in the soporific suburbs of Massachusetts under the philological guidance of her mother, a German Studies researcher, and her father, an engineer who began teaching her about computers and cameras at the age of 7. Since receiving her B.S. from NYU, she has worked professionally as a graphic & web designer, animator and illustrator in New York, while focusing independently in more recent years on photography and painting.
