SanDisk 4GB SD High Capacity Card Pushing the SD EnvelopeNow that SD (Secure Digital) storage cards are becoming the norm for low end digital cameras, SanDisk has stepped up to consumer demand by offering for the first time 4 gigabyte cards to the SD market.
Marked as “High Capacity” the cards are not necessarily compatible with existing equipment so it is important to take this into account before purchasing one. However, the 4GB SDHC cards are bundled with the new MicroMate USB 2.0 reader at no extra charge. The unit costs twenty dollars if you want to purchase it separately. The new readers work with both SDHC and SD cards so if you have a large number of the older models on hand you can still get some use out of them.
I currently own two cameras that take SD cards and I always like to load them with the highest capacity card possible. Why you might ask? Because SD cards are small and if I carry extras around I’m bound to loose them. These things are about the size and weight of a penny, meaning they can easily get buried in a camera bag or fall out of pockets.
It’s the unfortunate drawback of an industry wide trend to make cameras smaller. If you are lucky enough to have a camera that accepts high capacity technology then a 4 gigabyte card is certainly the way to go.
