Epson P-2000

Epson P-2000

For digital photographers on the go, it is always ideal to carry as little gear as possible. Epson had this idea in mind when they designed the P-2000, a small and portable digital card reader with a host of features that appeals exclusively to professional photographers.

The P-2000 contains a 40 giga-byte hard drive which provides plenty of space for several day's worth of images. In addition, the device is capable of downloading a standard compact flash card over thirteen times before needing a recharge, giving it the ability to go a long way between charges. Add on top of this a generous 3.8' LCD screen and you have the perfect device for uploading images on the go.

The team at Epson worked long and hard to integrate an interface into the P-2000 that was both easy to navigate and could support a wide array of features. Thankfully their efforts really paid off as the internal menus are easy to use and make perfect logical sense. Often times I have to struggle for a few days when learning the ins and outs of a new device, but not so with the P-2000. Major kudos to Epson in this area.

My only gripe with what is otherwise a very effective and useful tool for any serious photographer is the limited way in which the P-2000 enables the viewing of RAW files. RAW files can only be dis-played full screen using the embedded JPG in the original image. In addition, not all RAW formats are supported in view by the device which is unfortunate for those of us not using cameras from the top brands. Still, whether you can view the images or not they still can be stored on the internal hard drive which is really what the P-2000 is all about anyway.
