In Brazil, everything is larger than life. The country plays host to the world's mightiest river, its largest wetlands, and of course, its wildest party. The sheer size and wealth of diversity can make it an overwhelming and often intimating place for those coming to its shores for the first time. Like the green and lush rainforest that dominates its landscape, Brazil is a country that is always growing and spreading into new horizons.
Unlike many countries that shun the world around them, Brazil's major metropolitan centers have long held an open door policy of tolerance, and even encouragement, toward immigration.
The result has been a literal explosion in population since the end of the 19th century; inevitably making Brazil one of the world's leaders in cultural diversity.
As a rule, where there is a melting pot of ethnic and cultural customs, there is also great art, and Brazil is certainly no exception. A distinct mix of indigenous South American styles with modern western thinking is all that is needed to let creativity run wild. The result is often a blending of what is real and what is fantasy, bringing a formidable psychological and spiritual presence to the world of art. If Brazil has an international and universal voice, it can easily be found in its visual representations.
The New Nude Magazine is proud to present the portfolios of three native Brazilian photographers: Klaus Mitteldorf, Paulo Mancini, and Adriano Avila. Each photographer is as distinct and original as the country they call home. As a counter point, we also bring you an exclusive portfolio of nudes created by Petter Hegre who interprets the magic of the region as an outsider, basking in the richness of the land with the eyes of one who is seeing the world of Brazil for the first time.
