Joni will readily agree that she grew up in a box, or as that translates for the rest of us; a large Catholic family in Wyoming. For as long as she can remember she has had a classic case of romanticism fed to her in large doses by her grandmother. These were in constant supply in the form of literature, postcards, and stories of her many adventures in her days of youth. It wasn't uncommon for Joni to have sitting on her bookshelf a copy of the Bible, King Arthur, and Macbeth right in a row.
Ever since a tender young age, Joni has always been obsessed with the beauty of movement. She was one of those lovable children who would bounce around and say, 'Mommy, watch this!' as she jumped onto an overturned box, put one hand over her chest and the other in the air proclaiming, 'I'm the statue of liberty.' To this day she believes you can learn a lot about a person just by watching the way they move about and carry themselves.
It's no surprise that she took up dance at the age of 14 and by 16 was driving over fifty miles from her home town on a daily basis for classes. Over the years this hasn't changed and she is currently working on a degree with the goal of rehabilitation work with performing artists.
