Sony has announced the brand name for its digital SLR system. The new products to be launched this summer will be knows as the Sony Alpha mount, the same name Minolta has used for its SLR cameras in the Japanese market for decades. The choice is obviously to avoid confusion after Sony purchased the Konica-Minolta brand and Sony confirms the new system is based on the existing Maxxum mount and will continue to be backwards compatible.
