As we predicted, Nikon has recently officially announced the existence of the D40 D-SLR. Heavily marketed as a digital SLR “for the masses” early specs show the camera to be a slightly stepped down version of the best selling Nikon D50. No doubt with an aggressive price point the camera will sell in record numbers and be a major competitor for Canon’s Rebel series of D-SLR’s.
