During the forty years of Franco's dictatorship in Spain artistic and even self-expression was kept firmly under control. The nation was like a pressure cooker and, since the death of Franco in 1975, a whole new generation of people have exploded in a great wave of creative energy.
In art, design, film and photography some of the most innovative ideas in Europe come out of Spain and to celebrate the nation's fotografía, the massive San Sebastián International Contemporary Photography and Video Fair gets under way for its four day show on 14 April.
