7th Annual Photo SF Celebrating Photography by the BayThe 7th Annual International San Francisco Photographic Art Exposition will be held at the historic Festival Pavilion at the Ft. Mason Center from July 20 to 23rd, 2006 in San Francisco California.
Created by international curator Stephen Cohen, galleries and private dealers from the United States and around the world will exhibit for sale the finest photographic art ranging from the 19th century to the most progressive photo-based art including video and digital installations. The show will open with a reception on Thursday, July 20th from 6 to 9 p.m. to benefit Foto Forum / SFMOMA, a non-profit organization that brings together a diverse group of people, including collectors, photographers, scholars and art professionals, who share an enthusiasm for photography.
For the first time the festival will feature artist installation booths in the “Project Area” including video, mixed media work and a special installation called BEAT, a visual history of the Beat poets, and The New Art Project, a curated video installation from Europe. Guest speakers will include such famous names as Sandra Phillips, senior curator of SFMOMA, and internationally acclaimed artists Laura Letinsky, Ken Light, and John Stoddart.
Over the past seven years, Photo SF has grown into an important event for California Bay Area residents and west coast art collectors. In a region that has seen the birth of such photographic icons as Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, it is rare to see such a large collection of both dealers and enthusiasts gathered under one roof. A rare mixture of both enthusiasts and members of the professional arts community, the event attracts thousands of visitors each year.
Exhibition hours are Friday, July 21st and Saturday, July 22nd, 12 - 7pm, and Sunday, July 23rd, 12 - 6pm. Tickets are $15 for a one-day pass and $25 for a three-day pass. Lectures are $10 per person, per speaking engagement and onsite collecting seminars are $75. Student discount for lectures and the fair will be given to guests with valid I.D. Tickets to the opening benefit reception are $50 per person.
