Lon Ferguson was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in1958, and was raised in Dallas, Texas. Using his tax return money he purchased his first camera in 1977, and instantly fell in love. Some boys fall in love with puppies, others footballs; Long Ferguson fell in love with a camera.
In 1981 he received a BA in photography from Sam Houston State University, and in 1987 he received a Bachelors of Architecture from the University of Texas. He practiced architecture for six years in Chicago, Illinois. He then returned to Texas where he received an MFA in photography from the University of North Texas State in 1997. Since 2001 he has been a professor of art at Central Michigan University.
It wasn't until 1994, during his tenure at graduate school, that he took his first digital class, and found a new avenue for his creative work.
