Gabriele Rigon readily admits to being one of the luckiest people alive. Unlike many artists, he has no desire to give up his day job ' he works as a helicopter pilot flying Hueys and CH47 Chinooks in the Italian army.
Photography was an important part of Rigon's childhood. His grandfather ran a photographic studio founded in 1898. Gabriele began to take his own photographs professionally in the Army, where he specialized in reportage work for his flight group. His first photographs were taken during a United Nations mission to Namibia in 1990.
For Gabriele Rigon there is a similarity between aerial photography and the nude. In the air he is elated by the freedom of hovering between the sky and land. Without wings he is inspired by the freedom inherent in snapping away on the shutter. It is Rigon's belief that every woman has a femininity that a good photographer should be able to capture.
