The Last Cry Klaus Mitteldorf The Last Cry is without a doubt one of the more appropriate titles I have seen for a photographic book. So full of emotion, rage, anguish, and motion are the subjects of Klaus Mitteldorf that I almost feel exhausted just viewing them. I don’t mean that to sound negative, just the opposite really, as Klaus Mitteldorf takes the traditionally static nude and turns them on their ear into a flurry of kinetic motion.
Part of Mitteldorf’s success in accomplishing this is his non-traditional use of the surroundings around him. Many of his models are standing, or swimming, neck deep in fluid waters. These aren’t the tranquil waters often found when photographers are looking to represent the idea of serenity. Instead they are fluid bodies, like the figures that inhabit them, as if they are locked in an intricate dance of life and death.
