Occupied Lochai
Born and bred in New York but now living in South Florida, the artist known only as Lochai believes that all the best stories come from the heart and everyone has something hidden that is bursting to come out. That is the bedrock principle behind the work contained in his first published volume, Occupied.
In the introduction to Occupied Lochai is described as a “Polite Pervert”. Flipping through the work presented here one can instantly see how that statement immediately applies. It’s as if Lochai waits for permission from his subjects before he begins clicking the shutter. His models certainly have something about themselves to say, and he waits until they are good and ready to say it.
Lochai writes, “There is something very beautiful about watching a woman getting ready for a shoot. Very different from getting ready for a date because they will be making love to not just one person but to everyone who views their image.” Intimate and fun, Occupied is a strong and surprisingly honest volume from an up and coming photographer.
