Premiere Nudes Albert Arthur Allen In the 1920’s, a San Francisco photographer name Albert Arthur Allen took up the monumental task of photographing the nude, and became an unwitting figure in the political landscape of the time. Originally his work was only meant to be used as teaching aids for more traditional artists of the time; but it wasn’t long before the innocent and rich qualities of his work began taking on a life of their own. Basic black backgrounds soon gave way to elaborate set pieces where the full range of Allen’s vision was allowed to take fruit.
Unfortunately Allen’s work was not always appreciated by the conservatives and public figures of the time. His career is scared by several lawsuits and examples of public outcry against bold depiction of the nude body. It was these struggles however which paved the way for the freedom and acceptance nude photographers enjoy today.
